Vint retirement
but he did not know the meaning of this word ...

One of the founding fathers of the Internet.
It was he who in 1974 created the TCP / IP protocol
that allows computers to communicate with each other.
The American 65 years now occupies a key for Google,
that of "chief Internet evangelist"

I'm surprised you're not jeans-basket like a real geek!
True, in the Internet world, everyone dresses very "casual". I wear costumes three pieces from 1976. My wife suggested to me and since I had so many compliments that I continue to wear. Anyway, in Mountain View (Google headquarters in California, ed), they tolerate me then that's fine. Anyway, in my advanced age, I am a geek for honorary!

It's how many times a day on the Internet "an honorary geek?
Too, as my wife! It's amazing what you can spend time as on the web. Actually I'm almost constantly ... say sixteen hours a day.

You are one of the fathers of the Internet. What is your view of your creation?
I am surprised and pleased that it is so widely adopted. Internet is an ant hill where thousands of people busy. All they do is not necessarily interesting. But the number, every day, one, two or three innovations stand out. Then we can all benefit from these innovations.

Each innovation appears to push a little further the limits of privacy. This was the case with blogs and now with social networks. It is not disturbing?
Yes, especially since it is no longer possible to escape, even if you do not want to be exposed. Take the case of sites sharing photos. Anyone can upload photos of you. Worse still, the photos may be accompanied by your name. Even if you do not see your head on the Internet, you are!

How can we resolve this conflict with the private sphere?
In fact, I do not know if we can resolve it. I feel that new technologies lead us to abandon the private sphere. With the camera into the mobile phone for example, we realized we could discreetly take pictures at any moment and send it immediately anywhere on the planet. Like it or not, we give step by step to our privacy. Back then is very difficult. It must be the idea that technology makes us more visible than ever.

And for other problems such as spam, illegal or video piracy?
There are many ways to cause harm on the Internet, it's true. Therefore international discussions for countries to agree on what is acceptable and what is not. In this sense, I support the creation of a "right of the Internet" in the image of what has been done in the field of maritime law. But it took time ...

On 31 January, between 14 and 15 h 30 h 30, Google said all the sites as "potentially dangerous". This bug was dropped on the Internet from 20% to 30%. This heavy reliance on Internet search engine is the problem?
The bug that hit us that day is a good example which states that any infrastructure is both powerful and fragile. We do not think about infrastructure, it is aware of their existence when they do not work. Take electricity. It takes a failure for that is to say, "Oops I have the ice will melt in the freezer!"

But, Google does he not too much space in the Internet world?
I think not. People have the choice to use other services if they want. Internet is and will never be controlled by a single company. Private companies active in this field are many and varied and there will always be a place for competition.

Were you surprised by the explosion of social networks?
Let's say I had not anticipated the magnitude of the phenomenon. But on the merits it does not surprise me. Stay in touch with friends, see what they do, they are: it contributes to information sharing, social dialogue is the foundation of the Internet. Receive an e-mail that tells me to go see my Facebook, where someone has just written something on my profile. It is a complication that, in essence, is the same as sending an email. Except that in this case, it is a waste of time.

What is your position of "chief evangelist of the Internet" at Google?
Part of my role is to speak of the Internet and its future developments for the general public, media and academics. I meet a lot of engineers from different centers in the Google world and we discuss future developments, but also technical problems that arise. Finally, I study the proposals of people who come to present their ideas for new innovations.

You often say that 99% of the potential of the Internet are not yet exploited. What will change in coming years?
The management of entertainment systems via Web should become massive. This means that small devices will increasingly be connected to the Internet and thus able to interact intelligently. To record a TV program, just to name issue to the recorder and it will look just the time and channel of distribution. Similarly everything related to housing, heating stove, can be adjusted in the same way.

More robots than humans connected, this should please the fan of science fiction that you are?
I always loved science fiction! And sometimes reality catches up to the imagination. In our real world, I believe that in the near future there will be between ten and hundred times more devices than people connected.

In Switzerland, 65 years is the age of retirement. You think?
I do not know the meaning of the word "retirement." I like to Google and I followed a few years the future development of the Internet.
